English Learner Advisory Council

Purpose of ELAC

The English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC) gives recommendations to the School Site Council on how to better meet the needs of English Learners. Per Education Code 52176 ELAC carries out the following functions: 

  • Provide written recommendations to the SSC regarding programs and services for EL students to support their academic needs.
  • Advise the SSC regarding programs and services for English learners based on student performance and parental involvement data. 
  • Advise on the development of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), especially those sections related to English learners.
  • Assist in the review of the school’s language census, the assessment of achievement gaps of the EL student population, and with the development of the school’s program for EL students.
  • Advise on efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.
  • Assist with dissemination of information and materials related to all aspects of the District’s Master Plan for English learners.

Everyone is invited to attend the ELAC Meetings.  However, in order to vote on recommendations meeting participants must be elected ELAC Members.

ELAC Meeting Dates

The Main Street ELAC meets once per month at 8:30 a.m. except in September when it will meet twice in order to hold both an orientation meeting and elections.  For the 2022--2023 Academic Year, ELAC Meetings will be held on the following dates at:

  • Friday, September 30
  • Monday, October 10th
  • Monday, October 31
  • Monday, November 7
  • Monday, December 5th
  • Monday, January 23
  • Monday, February 13, 2023
  • Friday, March 3, 2023
